Notes from a Street Photography Walk

The temptation on a photo walk is to cover ground. More streets, more chances. I tried the opposite on Saturday and stayed within four blocks of the same corner for two hours.

By the second hour the street started to repeat itself. The baker stepped out to smoke at the same time. The man with the newspaper crossed at the same light. Patterns appeared that I would have missed moving through.

Staying put

When you know the rhythm of a place you can wait for the frame instead of chasing it. My best picture of the day was taken from a spot I had already walked past six times.

Next time you go out, pick one corner and give it an hour. You will be surprised how much happens there.
