A Lake That Looked Like Glass

We had walked in the evening before in light rain and seen nothing but cloud. I almost did not set an alarm.

At six the next morning I opened the tent and the whole valley was clear. The lake was so still the far shore was mirrored perfectly, peak for peak.

Worth the early start

By eight a breeze had picked up and the reflection was gone. Hikers began arriving, and the day became an ordinary beautiful day.

Some views are only there for an hour. The only way to see them is to be awake when they are.
