Choosing Rest Over Hustle

The productivity culture I grew up in had one rule: whoever does more wins. I followed it for a long time and ended most years exhausted without being sure what I had won.

This year I started treating rest as part of the work instead of the reward for it. A long walk on a Tuesday. An afternoon with no plans on a Thursday.

Work that lasts

Nothing collapsed. The work got better, actually, because I was bringing a rested mind to it instead of a frayed one.

Rest is not laziness. It is how you make sure you are still here, and still good at what you do, ten years from now.
